Age UK Medway – a reputation for excellence, a commitment to the community

Age UK Medway is committed to helping local older people enjoy a better quality of life for longer.

It’s an exciting time for the charity. After 40 years’ experience helping the local

community, Age Concern Gillingham and Age Concern Strood merged two years ago. This year we became Age UK Medway, a local partner of Age UK – the

influential national charity formed when Help the Aged and Age Concern joined forces.

Since he took on the role in January, our new Chief Executive, John Norley, has

overseen exciting changes as we extend and strengthen our role in Medway.

We’re already a powerful presence locally, and we have ambitious plans for growth.

Building on our reputation for high quality services – from day care centres to

Information and Advice – we’re expanding to offer older people even more support,

including a dementia outreach service. Our aim is to enable older people to enjoy

an active, independent and dignified life for as long as possible.

In a time of short-term projects and temporary programmes, we are committed

to continue offering a solid, financially secure resource that older people can trust.

John Norley explains: ‘Charities have a responsibility to make lasting changes. We are building a charity that can do just that. We are enabling the older people of Medway to take advantage of the support we offer from a younger age and experience the full range of our services as their needs change.’

Looking ahead, we’re putting the pieces in place to face future challenges with

confidence. With the help of our trustees, volunteers and the local community

we plan to continue to adapt to changes and respond swiftly and effectively to

our customers’ needs.

Help shape the future of a dynamic local charity

– volunteer trustees required

Age UK is seeking trustees to help guide and support us as we grow and evolve.

Our board is looking to broaden its portfolio of skills. The right professionals will enable us to meet future challenges and offer a strong and sustainable range of services to the older people in the community.

If you have expertise in the areas of law, business development or human resources and can commit to a minimum of six trustee meetings a year (and some sub committee meetings), Age UK Medway would like to meet you.

Please contact John Norley for an informal conversation.
