Getting there

This role is based in the centre of Canterbury, up to 15 minutes’ walk from the train and bus stations.

Description of Vacancy

Are you an aspiring chef familiar with the kitchen?

Would you like to gain an Apprenticeship in Food Production & Cooking whilst playing a key role in the running of a new establishment in the heart of Canterbury?

The Water Lane Café, in the heart of the city, is looking for two Apprentices to perform catering duties that will contribute towards a delicious dining experience for our customers.

Responsibilities

Basic responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

- Preparation and presentation of dishes

- Partaking in back of house kitchen training including how cook and serve dishes

- Complying with Health & Safety standards

- Maintaining environmental standards within the kitchen

- Cleaning of utensils and other kitchen equipment

- Stock and inventory management – ordering items when necessary

Wage

£105 per week (based on £3.50 per hour)

Plus tips.

Hours

30 working hours per week – 6 working hours per day.

Shifts will include Saturdays and Sundays with days off midweek.  Shifts will include mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Qualifications Required

Grade E or above in English and Maths GCSE.

Skills Required

The applicant should have a basic understanding and experience of being in a kitchen area and preparing food.  This can have been in a domestic setting.

Personal Qualities

Punctuality is essential for this role and applicants must be able to demonstrate their ability to arrive at the workplace in time.

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
