The Medway Messenger is looking for a chief reporter to join its team.

This is an exciting job for a candidate bursting with ideas and enthusiasm.

As well as giving the ideal person a real hands-on role in shaping the local news agenda, it offers a chance to news edit the award-winning KentOnline website and two Medway Messenger editions.

As a first step on the management ladder, it also presents the opportunity to learn more about the wider KM Media Group business.

You will be comfortable working in print, but be a fully fledged multi-media reporter keen on playing your part online and on our kmfm radio station and the recently-launched KMTV local TV station.

As well as helping the newsdesk, you will be prepared to lead by example and coach more junior members of staff.

Medway is one of Britain's newsiest areas, with a population of almost 300,000 and major new developments planned.

You'll be joining a team of experienced journalists passionate about their work and patch.

The ideal candidate will be fully qualified with a full driving licence.

  • You'll be confident, able to communicate well and write tight copy. You'll need to be multi-media savvy and social media literate;
  • You'll be comfortable dealing with the great and the good...and the not so great and good;
  • You'll be open to learning new skills;
  • Above all, we're looking for ideas and lots of them.
