Apprentice in Warehousing and Storage
Total Ship Services are a shipping, stevedoring, warehousing and distribution company.
Mainly discharging shipments of steel products and timber from ships into warehouses and open storage areas, some repackaging and reloading to transport for onward delivery to customers.
Description of Vacancy
Total involvement in all aspects of the warehousing process from acceptance of cargo details on a ship, inputting onto stock systems, preparing despatch paperwork, providing customers with stock details and checking of loaded lorries, including weighbridge operation. Vacancy will also include some repacking of cargo and forklift driving training with subsequent moving of cargo and loading lorries.
Monday to Friday 0900hrs to 1700hrs
One hour paid lunch break.
Please be advised that the hours will need an element of flexibility to coincide with ships discharging and the general business needs.
Some overtime may be offered/needed.
Receiving of ship’s cargo details, usually by email.
Entering details onto stock spreadsheets, usually on excel.
Regularly advising customers of their stock levels.
Preparing despatch ticket for lorry loads.
Checking of lorries once loaded.
Operation of a weighbridge.
Constant updating of stock sheets following despatch.
Physical stock checks
Breaking down and repacking of cargo.
Towards end of apprenticeship, driving of forklift to move cargo and load lorries.
Assist in the broader aspect of all shipping operational requirements.

A* to C - GCSE Maths and English or equivalent qualifications in these subjects
IT Functional Skills pass.
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework - consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
