We are striving to recruit great people to deliver excellent patient care and join us as a Call Handler in our Ashford, Kent, 111 Contact Centre.

As a Call Handler, you will be answering telephone calls directly from members of the public and health care professionals and will be responsible for directing the caller to the most suitable service to meet their needs. This may include escalating certain patient calls to our Clinical Advisor Call Handlers, dispatching an ambulance in the case of an emergency or referring onto other available services.

Successful applicants will demonstrate high levels of personal commitment to facilitate the delivery of a patient focused service. You’ll demonstrate excellent communication skills, a customer focused approach or experience in a healthcare environment and be competent with IT, to ensure you can use our e-based communication call handling systems. Successful candidates must possess GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications) at Grade C or above (2018 Grade 4).

If you are successful, you will complete our 7 week comprehensive NHS Pathways training. This includes three weekends, Saturdays & Sundays – 9-5pm, and 3 weeks shadowing & mentoring on Wednesday, Thursday’s & Friday’s, 2-10pm

Hourly rates of Pay –


Monday to Friday days

£8.93   per hour

Evenings, Nights & Saturdays

£12.83 per hour*

Sunday’s & Bank Holidays

£16.78 per hour*

*These are maximum pay rates. Any unsocial hours payments are included and in-line with the new NHS Terms & Conditions pay review, from 1st September 2018
