Description of Vacancy

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly and established nursery in the heart of Canterbury.

As the apprentice nursery practitioner you will play an important role in supporting the children’s needs through quality education and care.

If you are looking for your first steps in childcare this is the ideal place to start, but if you already hold an existing Level 2 we are happy to offer a Level 3 apprenticeship.

This is a varied role.  Tasks will include – but are not limited to – the following:

Participating in planning and implementation of Early Years Foundation Stage using the characteristics of effective learning

Working with the room senior to ensure the room meets all legal requirements

Ensuring two way, open, honest communication with all parents and informing them of relevant aspects of nursery life and their child’s development

Ensuring upkeep of the room providing a safe and welcoming and stimulating environment to children, staff and parents

Being an allocated first aider

Being responsible for own personal development under the guidance of your room senior



£168.75 per week (£4.50 per hour)



This is a shift based role, working 37.5 paid hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 08:00 – 18:00.

Breaks of a minimum of 30 minutes will be included, but will not be paid.

Personal Qualities

Successful applicants will need to provide ‘right to work in the UK’ documentation, undertake a DBS and provide two satisfactory references prior to commencing employment


Qualifications Required

Grade C/4 or equivalent in GCSE English and Maths.

Due to the nature of the role, your offer of an apprenticeship will be subject to references and a DBS check.


Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.


Important Information

Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
