Vacancy Description

This popular secondary school in Canterbury is now recruiting for an apprentice to start with them in September 2019.

You would be based from the main school office and your role would include a range of administrative duties and responsibilities that will support the successful running of the school.

The candidate will be working alongside and supporting team members within a range of areas of administration in the main school office. Key tasks will include:

  • Mail merging communications to parents
  • Occasional reception duties
  • Preparing outgoing post
  • Handling sensitive data whilst maintaining confidentiality
  • Using SIMS (management information system) to gather information/run reports
  • Administrative support for whole school events
  • General office support.


£136.50 per week


35 working hours per week, term time only (+ 2 additional weeks)

Monday to Friday: 9-4:30pm (includes half an hour unpaid lunch break)

Skills Required

The successful applicant should have good communication skills and be able to confidently apply their knowledge of the major Microsoft Office packages.

Qualifications Required

GCSEs grade C / 4 (or equivalent) in English, Maths is preferred

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – consisting of the NVQ Business Administration, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Additional Detail

As of 1st April 2019, the NMW for Apprentices is £3.90 per hour. This applies to 16 - 18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the Apprentice National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent in training.

Important Information

Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
