Have you got the drive and tenacity to cover politics in a county at the heart of the Brexit debate?
KM Media Group, Kent’s biggest publisher, is looking for a new Local Democracy Reporter to bring audiences the stories that matter during a time of political turmoil.
The Local Democracy Reporter scheme is a unique partnership between the BBC and regional publishers. The successful candidate will be employed by the KM but their stories will be shared with all eligible publishers, including the BBC.
We have been at the forefront of the initiative, employing the UK’s very first Local Democracy Reporter. She has now been headhunted so we are looking for her replacement.
The successful candidate will be adept at identifying issues and stories buried in council agendas which need to be brought to the public’s attention.
They will establish themselves as a trusted source of news and act as an ambassador for the scheme.
They will be comfortable working under their own initiative and will thrive on the unique challenge this role offers, covering a county likely to be impacted by Brexit more than any other.
He or she will be qualified to NCE-standard or equivalent with a good level of experience of working to daily deadlines, and will be comfortable providing content in text, audio or video format as required.
They will understand the importance of social media and the way it can be used to drive audience and engagement and will thrive under pressure.
A full driving licence is required.
This will be an 18-month fixed term contract with the successful candidate working across our Medway and Maidstone newsrooms.
