Director of Finance and Resources

Responsible for:

Communications Manager, Fundraising Manager, Sales Manager, plus volunteers and interns as required.

 My client have been serving the local community for over 130 years. We call this a youth minded community approach. We work across a number of boroughs including Havering, Barking and Dagenham, Dartford, Greenwich and Ashford. We work from the following locations; Romford, Dartford, Greenwich and Ashford

Job purpose

To lead the management and development of communications, marketing, sales and fundraising to increase the visibility and support of the work of the charity

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Communications and Marketing Strategy

  • Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Resources to develop and implement a communications and marketing strategy for the charity  
  • To oversee the delivery of the communications and marketing strategy, and work closely with the Senior Management Team to continue to develop and adapt this to meet ongoing priorities.
  • To provide communications and marketing support for sales promotions and fundraising activities and events to optimise their value to the charity
  • To lead on brand implementation and ensure that all communications and marketing materials are in line with brand standards
  • To develop the associations social media and on-line presence
  • Sales Strategy
  • To develop an annual sales plan in conjunction with the Sales Manager that meets the commercial needs of the association
  • To oversee and line manage the Sales Manager to deliver sales targets for the gym and other commercial parts of the business.
  • Fundraising Strategy
  • To oversee the implementation of the Fundraising Strategy providing hands-on support for bid writing and other fundraising approaches.
  • To lead the Board Fundraising Group and liaise with Board members as appropriate
  • To oversee capital fundraising campaigns
  • Media relations and reputation management
  • To ensure media relations and enquiries are effectively managed, and to lead PR campaigns with targeted media to achieve agreed priorities.
  • To work closely with policy experts across the charity to help best represent and communicate the needs and voices of the young people we support.
  • To brief, advise and work with the Senior Management Team and Trustees on managing reputational risk and crisis communications.
  • To manage the social media presence to maximise its benefits for the organisation and manage any associated risks.
  • To manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders including local press and the charity  
  • To undertake ‘on call duty’ in rotation with the Communications Manager to ensure that all media enquiries and crisis management are dealt with to deadline.
  • Internal communications
  • To deliver an internal communications strategy
  • To ensure the Senior Management Team, Heads of Service and Trustees are kept informed of key developments that may be of media/public interest.
  • Management
  • To lead and support the communications, sales and fundraising team, developing staff members within role.
  • To develop and manage the communications and marketing budget.
  • Any other duties reasonably required within competence including attendance at evening and out of hours events and media rota
