Thank you for your interest in the position of Kent Union’s Coop – In-Store Bakery Assistant at Kent Union. We are a successful, vibrant and exciting organisation with a bright future ahead of us. We have achieved a great deal in the last few years, more than doubling in size to our current £12 million turnover, 500 employees and 2,000+ volunteers. Kent Union is a great place to work. We were re-accredited with Investor in People Gold status in December 2014, and were accredited with Leaders in Diversity in 2013; we were the first students’ union in the UK to achieve Investing in Volunteers status and have been included in the Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For, for 10 years, placed 58th for 2019.

The role of Kent Union’s Co-op – In Store Bakery Assistant is on grade 1 point 3 of Kent Union’s payscale and is based in our busy, new main campus shop on the Canterbury Campus at the University of Kent. The shop is a Co-op Franchise store, situated in the centre of campus, serving convenience groceries, household items, hot and cold food to go and in store baked bread, and operates 24 hours a day in university term time. The post holder would be required to work as part of the In-Store Bakery team, preparing and producing bread and hot food such as burgers, hot dogs and pastries at the same high standards of normal Co-op stores, while demonstrating great standards of food safety and completing all legal documentation associated with a retail catering business.

Working hours:

Monday-Friday: 1pm – 7pm - You may occasionally be required to change working hours dependent on the needs of the store, such as covering annual leave or weekends.

Kent Union runs two Coop Franchise stores on the Canterbury Campus. Our stores have the same look and feel of a normal Co-op store, however the business is owned and run by us, with support provided by The Co-operative Group. This enables us to put money back into students’ pockets by employing over 100 Kent students each year, as well as providing a vital service to over 20,000 University of Kent students and staff. We are a not for profit organisation, making a small surplus each year which supports us to conduct our union’s other activities, helping us to enhance the student experience and give them the best time at Kent.
