Communal establishments area managers 37 hours a week Contract: 19 January 2021 to 23 April 2021 plus holiday Salary dependent on location Band 1 - £24.56 Band 2 - £21.28 Band 3 - £18.87 No fixed daily working hours but you must work within the following times: Monday to Saturday: 9am and 8pm Sundays and bank holidays: 10am and 4pm Great motivators make the census The census is a survey of the entire population of England and Wales that happens every 10 years. It’s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect everyone – things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we need. To help us, we need a field team to encourage people in communal establishments (CEs) to take part, and an experienced area manager to coordinate the operation. The role Are you a highly experienced manager? In this vital, temporary role, you will induct and oversee the team leaders, each managing their own team of officers. These officers will be contacting and visiting CEs in your area, encouraging completion of the Census 2021 online questionnaire. CEs are managed residential accommodation such as universities and care homes. The team leaders you manage will be responsible for delivering questionnaires and following up on CEs that have yet to fill in the questionnaire. You will also line manage an area support officer, and work with census engagement managers in your area to assist with wider engagement at community events as required. Your teams work remotely, so you must encourage and motivate them through regular contact, calls and team meetings. You will need to deal with and escalate any issues that might come up and will have the support of a census staff helpdesk and online help should you need it. As your teams will often work evenings and weekends, you will need to be flexible and available when they need you. You will report to the regional manager, based at our head office in Titchfield. About you As a highly experienced manager, you are confident about leading a large team, including working and building relationships with remote workers. You also have extensive operational experience, including planning and implementing processes and procedures remotely. Professionalism, confidence and resilience all matter. You will use your initiative, think independently and remain calm at all times. As this is a home-working role, you will need space you can use as an office where you can store boxes of field staff materials. You will also need a current, full UK driving licence and use of a motor vehicle, insured for business use. We will pay travel expenses within your work area. For roles in Wales, knowledge of Welsh would be an advantage. People make the census.
