Technical Industrial Placement Scheme Samworth Brothers are a 21st century food business creating high quality food products enjoyed by millions of people across the UK every day. We have grown to employ over 10,000 people across our group of businesses based mainly in Leicestershire but also with sites spread across the UK including Cornwall, Plymouth, Gloucester, Nottinghamshire and Manchester. You will know some of our own branded products such as Soreen and Ginsters but we also make products for major UK food retailers. For four generations Samworth Brothers has been acting responsibly and doing the right thing. As a business, we exist to be a force for good in the lives of our communities, and to create greater opportunities for our colleagues, our customers and our suppliers. By being the very best at what we do, we can make profits to reinvest in a better future and a better world. About this Scheme Our 12-month Industrial Placement Programme is an exciting opportunity for those with a keen interest in the food industry to develop their skills and knowledge whilst completing a year in industry. Over two 6-month placements our IP students develop professional skills and knowledge through hands-on experience with real responsibility working within the Technical functions, gaining insight to into areas such as food safety, analysis and process development, working with raw materials and food related legislation. The scheme is specifically tailored to provide the all-round support needed for IP students to adapt to life into a fast-paced, multifaceted working life in the food industry. To complement professional in-role experience, our IP Development Programme leads IP students through a curated learning journey, delivered by internal L&D specialists, to build robust personal effectiveness and relationship management skills. In addition, all IP students are matched with a senior mentor to enhance their understanding, offer perspective and assist in growing their professional network of contacts. Our IP students also have the chance to get involved with projects supporting Corporate Social Responsibility activities - from fundraising through our Charity Challenge adventure, providing volunteer time and resources for local community projects, or driving environmental initiatives, our teams are always working to make a positive impact. The Right Person Our Technical Placement Students will be self-motivated, highly driven and excited to work in a food Technical environment. We operate in a fast-paced industry so excellent organisation skills are essential along with the ability to work using your own initiative. You will be confident with excellent interpersonal skills and be flexible to relocate to our Samworth sites based in Cornwall, Plymouth, Gloucester, Nottinghamshire and Manchester. You will be highly numerate with exceptional analytical skills as well as have a commitment to quality, hygiene and safety. In addition, you must be currently studying a food science or food technical degree that allows for a placement year in 2021. As we operate over multiple locations, and roles can often involve driving, we prefer candidates to hold a full driving licence, although this is not essential. We provide a comprehensive range of benefits including great facilities with onsite parking, subsidised restaurants and a discount scheme 'Quality Life' that provides savings at supermarkets, high street retailers and a host of leisure outlets Samworth Brothers do not engage with unlicensed gangmasters or third parties.
