Reporting to Marketing & Communications Manager

Location       Sevenoaks 

Purpose of the role:

West Kent Mind provides a range of services with and on behalf of people with mental health problems. We are looking for a passionate Marketing Assistant to support our Digital team with a variety of online and offline tasks to help develop, promote and raise the profile of West Kent Mind across all media channels. Responsibilities include digital content creation, social media scheduling, data management and supporting the team with the implementation of our communications strategy and marketing plans.

Key Tasks:

Assist the Marketing & Communications Manager in the implementation of marketing and communications strategy for West Kent Mind, maximising the reach, profile and impact of the organisation across all media channels.

Support and assist with the development of a creative social media strategy for West Kent Mind to increase brand awareness. 

Create and generate regular, diverse and engaging content for the West Kent Mind website and social media channels, liaising closely with other teams to capture content from across the organisation. 

Manage a social media dashboard, scheduling posts across all channels at optimal times.

Assist with the use of social media metrics to evaluate and adjust the content strategy to maximise potential reach and engagement.

Assist with the updating of the West Kent Mind website content.

Assist with image sourcing, image resizing and copy sourcing for online and offline promotional materials.

Assist with ensuring all marketing and promotional materials are branded, accurate, inclusive, appealing and of a high standard.

Assist with the compilation of regular e-newsletters using MailChimp.

Carry out data management tasks including the cleansing of existing databases.

Carry out any appropriate administrative tasks to support the Digital team.

Carry out all of the above in accordance with the aims, values and policies of West Kent Mind, in particular confidentiality, impartiality and equal opportunities policies.

Person specification

All experience may be paid or voluntary, full or part-time, in the UK or overseas. 

Essential experience

Experience of working in a marketing or promotional role (paid or voluntary)

Essential skills and competencies

Excellent communication skills including writing and research skills 

Experience of generating and managing creative content for social media channels

Experience or knowledge of managing a social media dashboard or scheduling tools

Attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize the tasks allocated

Ability to work on your own initiative, seeking support when needed

Ability to work effectively with other team members

Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office

Empathy and understanding of people with mental health problems and responsive to the hopes, needs and aspirations of people with mental ill health

23 days per year (calculated pro-rata for part-time employees) increasing by 1 day for each year of service to a maximum of 30. Bank holidays are also calculated on a pro-rata basis, these are discretionary and do not form part of your contract of employment.


There is an opportunity to participate in a pension scheme.

Probationary period

This is usually 3 months but may be extended for a period of no more than 6 months.

Employee Assistance

All staff have access to an Employee Assistance Programme. This is a 24-hour service available 365 days per year.

*Full Time is 37 hours a week
