Madisons Recruitment are actively seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a client of ours based in Maidstone. Overview A qualified construction professional with a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience in the Cost Management of construction projects at a senior level in one or more of the following sectors; Retail, Commercial, Distribution and Residential / Mixed Use sectors. Demonstrates excellent leadership and organisational skills of both the external project team and internal Cost Management team. To lead and hold responsibility for the performance of the Cost Management team on specifically allocated accounts or work-streams in terms of: - Client liaison - Monitoring of compliance with Scope of Services within Professional Appointment - Fee / income status - Quality and timing of output - Delivery Cost Management Manages the staff PDP Process to ensure the team are supported and motivated and performance issues are addressed in an objective and timely manner. An excellent knowledge of the development process from inception of the project through to the successful delivery and commercial close-out, specifically the requirements for Cost Management as part of the overall process. A track record for cost managing and successfully delivering large scale construction projects and/or high value roll-out investment programmes. Excellent technical knowledge, possessing the core skills and knowledge expected of a senior-level Cost Manager and necessary to manage and lead large scale construction projects successfully. Identify opportunities to improve our services to Clients and work with the senior management team to implement accordingly. Is able to assist with the development, negotiation and agreement of the company’s CM and / or PM Client appointments and ensures the services are executed in accordance with the terms of engagement and in a viable manner. Core Skills, Knowledge and Attributes: Must be able to demonstrate commitment, energy, drive and the ability to work under pressure on multiple projects / client accounts. Demonstrates a good understanding and use of key cost management processes including; - Estimating and associated benchmarking together with the progression of estimates through the design development process. - Procurement recommendations and implementation. - Value Engineering processes both from a management and technical input perspective. - Contractual awareness and understanding of risk transfer through procurement. - Robust change management and cost reporting (forecasting) processes. - Understanding of the contractual obligations on each party dependent upon procurement route. - Ability to successfully negotiate and substantiate all aspects of the commercial management of construction projects and programmes. - Microsoft Word and Excel systems. - Microsoft PowerPoint or similar Project Presentation systems and software. To be able to effectively support the allocated Cost Management team in their duties and to be the first point of reference for that team on all technical matters. Have a good knowledge of JCT and similar industry standard forms of building contracts and demonstrate competence and professionalism in the implementation of the role of the QS/EA/CA. Is capable of preparing high quality project proposals and tender submissions relating to the services provided by the company Is able to interrogate and monitor project costs, input in to VE exercises and take necessary steps to realise opportunities and mitigate cost overspend risks. Is able to work to and meet agreed deadlines, planning accordingly and communicates progress effectively. Excellent leadership skills generating clear direction, confidence and clarity of project goals and objectives. Conducts business with integrity and professionalism expected of one of the Senior Cost Management team Qualifications: Degree level and ideally membership of a professional body e.g. MRICS. Or by other relevant experience
