Trainee accountant (this is a junior role)

The main job

To prepare small business accounts (sole trader, partnerships and limited companies) from client records including chasing clients for missing information and speaking to clients to ensure accounts are accurate

To prepare income and corporation tax returns and computations based on accounts prepared

To assist senior accountants on larger accounts jobs when required

You will also be required to:

To answer phone when receptionists on other calls or otherwise unavailable

To ‘meet and greet’ clients in reception when receptionists are unavailable

Help keep the office tidy

Do filing when necessary

Training

Training towards an ACCA qualification is also a prerequisite and you will be able to start your training once you have successfully negotiated your probationary period (usually three months). This will entail studying at home during the evenings and weekends and taking professional exams every 3 to 6 months. You will also go on external revision courses close to the exam dates.

Please be aware that this is an academic profession and achieving full ACCA membership (becoming a qualified accountant) can take 4 to 5 years.

Please also be aware that we only cover the cost of first attempts at each exam (there are up to 14 depending on exemptions).

Package

The starting salary is £12,000 and for each exam pass (or exemption allowed) a rise of £1,000 is given.

Training costs are covered only for first attempts at each exam. Additional days leave are given to attend external revision courses and exams.

Holiday entitlement is 20 days (this excludes bank holidays).

Office hours are 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch.

There is free parking locally although this may change in the future.

Requirements to be considered for job

Minimum level of education – 3 A levels or Level 3 AAT qualification (must have at least a C grade in English and Maths at GCSE level as well)

Driving licence and own car (client visits and other tasks may require this)
