NURSERY APPRENTICE ASSISTANT (LEVEL 3/ADVANCED)
We work with children from 3 months to pre-school age to develop social and educational development through creative activities and play. Description of Vacancy
To be trained to undertake same responsibilities as Nursery Assistant;
- To contribute to a high quality caring environment for children. This includes creating a warm, friendly and stimulating atmosphere in which the children can develop emotionally, socially and educationally through individual attention and group activities.
- Work (under supervision) with children in the Setting, to provide all aspects of care and supporting learning opportunities, which may include washing, changing and feeding.
- Undertake training to obtain recognised qualifications, including completing assignments on time, and attending all tutorials.
- Uphold standards within the Setting by adhering to all policies and procedures.
- Strive to safeguard children by working to the organisation’s safeguarding Code of Conduct.
- Assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children.
- Provide adult interaction with children in the Setting.
- Know and implement the Setting’s confidentiality policy
- Contribute to the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the Setting
- To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the trainee’s supervisor from time to time
- Look upon the Setting as a “whole” where your help can be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children
- To ensure the Setting is a high quality environment which meets the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development
- To promote and support the Setting’s policies relating to safeguarding of children and young people within the workplace
£4.30 per hour
Opening hours 7am – 7pm Mon – Fri
Flexi working hours: either 30 or 40 hours per week over four or five days. This is discussed with the individual about the hours they want to do. Lunch breaks are either 30 minutes of 1 hour (unpaid) dependent on hours worked.
20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”
- Enthusiasm for working with young children.
- An interest in the care, learning and development of young children.
- A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities.
- Previous experience of caring for, or working with children in a voluntary or paid capacity.
- Good organisational and planning skills.
- Flexibility – occasionally working hours might be changed, e.g. if the setting hosts a Parent’s Evening.
Minimum GCSE grade 9 – 4 (or A – C) in both English and maths.
Full Level 3 qualification in childcare (either NVQ or BTEC).
Minimum 1 year experience of working in a nursery setting.
(Applicants who do not meet the full criteria may be considered for the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship instead).
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard – Early Years Educators, and other job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes and as childminders. They may either be working on their own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.
Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Therefore, you must have the means to get to your place of work on a daily basis whilst waiting for your first wages to be paid.
