Roseacre Junior School is a large Junior School in Bearsted near Maidstone with 430 children in 14 classes.

Travel Information: Nearest train station is Bearsted then a short 10 minute walk to the school

Description of vacancy 

Roseacre Junior School are looking to recruit an Apprentice to work with a specific class in the mornings and with various classes and year groups in the afternoons. The work will initially involve small group and individual teaching.

The successful candidate will be given all the relevant support to enable them to fulfil their duties and complete the Apprenticeship course.

The main duties are:

  • Assist the teacher with learning activities. Support the pupils in accessing learning activities as directed by the teacher to enable pupils’ progress towards their targets.  Be aware of and support differences to ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security and confidentiality reporting all concerns to an appropriate person to ensure pupils’ wellbeing.
  • Contribute to the overall work/aims of the school and appreciate and support the role of colleagues and other professionals to enable the school to fulfil its development plans.
  • Undertake training and other learning activities and attend relevant meetings (within contracted hours) as required to ensure own continuing professional development.


£4.30 per hour

The school may be able to offer a higher rate depending on the calibre of the candidate.


Monday – Friday (term time only)

8.45 am to 3.15 pm, with a paid 15 minutes break in the morning and a half hour unpaid lunch break, 30 hours paid per week

20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”

Skills Required

  • Good standard of general education together with good maths and English skills.
  • Use basic technology (computer, photocopier)
  • Have the ability to relate well to children and adults, understanding their needs and being able to respond accordingly.
  • Possess the skills to encourage pupils to interact with others and be socially responsible.

Qualifications Required

Minimum GCSE grade 9 – 4 (or A – C) in both English and maths.

Training Provided

On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Standard - Teaching Assistants work in Primary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.

Important Information
