Engineers, Technicians, Machinists… time to start your future in education

You may have experience in a different engineering field, and we’re interested in how you can tailor your knowledge to teach our students.

This is the perfect place to start your education and teaching career and you don’t need to have worked in an education setting before!

If you don’t have a teaching qualification, we’ll support you and give you the skills to teach. We’ll support you in your training and give you time during your working week to get the qualification. For more information, have a look at our Teaching Academy page.

Working in Further Education isn’t the same as working in a secondary school, you’ll be supporting adults and young people in practical environments and machine workshops with lathes, CNC and Milling Machines.

What does a typical day look like?

  • You’ll provide learning/technical support to staff and students, undertaking assessment and quality checking duties.
  • You’ll be liaising with internal and external customers and managers.
  • You’ll be providing feedback to students that will aid successful progression and achievement.
  • You’ll manage stock control, ordering and issuing of supplies.

Alongside our priority of excellent student experience, we also focus on our employees. Here are just some of our Benefits when working for the East Kent Colleges Group:

  • Competitive salary and holiday entitlement
  • If new to teaching, you will benefit from £7000 investment in your teacher training when you come straight from industry
  • Access to 100's of online discounts via our Rewards Scheme (Inc. Restaurant, Grocery, Retail, Gym, Holidays)
  • Access to cycle to work, car leasing and tech purchasing schemes
  • Generous pension scheme - 28% employer contribution
  • Being part of a company with an Eco-Sustainability focus of being Net-Zero
  • Time off for your child's first day at school, moving home and for interviews
  • My 10 Days initiative - bid for up-to 10 days off work to pursue voluntary work
  • Being part of Community Days and Annual Staff Celebration Day

About You

  • Machine shop experience as the role will see you teaching lathes, CNC machines etc.
  • You’ll be organised and creative with the ability to plan and teach engaging and innovative lessons.
  • You will have a level 3 qualification in your engineering discipline.
  • With your engineering knowledge, you can assess and track students’ progress, to further plan intervention. You’ll ensure all students develop the skills they need to succeed.
  • If you’re not a qualified teacher, ideally you would have experience in delivering training in the workplace, however this isn’t essential as training can be provided.
  • You must have a positive outlook and be empathetic towards learners.

The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of designated study programs and/or courses from Level 1 up to Level 3 and will be able to motivate learners to achieve and succeed on their programmes of study
