KentOnline senior news editor
- Full Time
KentOnline is one of the UK’s most successful websites, delivering almost 20 million page impressions in May.
Now we have a rare vacancy for a senior news editor to help ensure we continue to innovate and grow.
Our ideal candidate will thrive on pressure and love breaking stories, but will also recognise that building a successful website and engaged audience means far more than just covering the news.
As well as leading the news agenda in a genuinely multimedia business incorporating print, radio and television, the news editor will help develop our growing podcast and smart speaker audience, manage our multiple social media channels, run daily news meetings, oversee shift rotas and ensure we stay ahead of the curve.
Flexibility and enthusiasm are a must, with the news editor forming part of a duty team covering early, day and evening shifts along with some weekends.
The successful applicant will have a gut instinct for what our audience wants to read, but will also be adept at using analytics tools to shape our output.
The position is based in our multimedia newsroom in Medway, which is also the location of our popular kmfm radio station. The news editor will also liaise with news teams at offices across Kent.
Our last two news editors were poached for digital jobs at the Telegraph so this is a fantastic opportunity to make a name for yourself at an organisation that doesn’t believe in standing still.
You will be qualified to NQJ standard or equivalent and ideally have experience of running a busy newsdesk.
KentOnline is part of KM Media Group, an independent publisher serving the people of Kent and Medway. KM Media Group is a subsiduary of Iliffe Media, the country’s fastest-growing regional publisher.
